Annual performance of Iran’s iron production sector

Iran’s major state-run iron ore companies, affiliated with Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), produced about 38.341 million tons of iron ore concentrate during the last fiscal year, ended March 20, 2018.

The companies’ output figure indicates an 18 percent increase compared to the preceding year, IMIDRO said.

The companies produced 4.46 million tons of iron ore concentrate in the latest month of the last fiscal year (Feb. 20-March 20).

Gol Gohar Iron Ore Co. ranked first producing 14.24 million tons in the 12-month period, followed by Chadormalou with 8.54 million tons of output.

Markazi (4.947 million tons), MIDHCO (4.403 million tons), Gohar Zamin (4.101 million tons) and Sangan (2.107 million tons) stood at the next places.

The report didn’t include the volume of iron ore produced by private sector companies, which produce a total of 14 million tons of iron ore annually.

Also 6.612 million tons of Iron ore granular were produced by the aforementioned six companies in the 12-month period, 11 percent more year-on-year.

Sangan was the largest Iron ore granular producer with 2.198 million tons of output, followed by Markazi (1.826 million tons), Iranian Central Plateau Iron Ore Mines Co (1.039 million tons), Jalal Abad (849,759 tons) and Mishdavan (327,622 tons).

Over 18.96 million tons of sponge iron produced by the state-run companies, 14 percent more compared to the 12 months of the preceding year.

The state-run firms’ iron ore pellets production in the 12-month period registered a rise by 22-percent to 31.357 million tons as well.

The Islamic Republic exported exported $984.2 million worth of iron ore in last fiscal year.

Iran’s total iron ore reserve stands at 5.1 billion tons, of which 2.8 billion tons are proven.
