Passenger, cargo traffic via Iranian airports fall

Over 38,228 domestic and international flights were carried out via Iranian airports in the last calendar month (April 20-May 21), Iran Airports Company (IAC) said.

The figure indicates a fall by 9 percent compared to the same month of the preceding year, according to the report.

More than 4.629 million passengers were transferred via Iranian airports in the 1-month period, 13 percent less year-on-year. Also 42.5 million kilograms of cargo was transported via Iranian airports‎ in the period (a 12 percent fall).

Compared to the preceding month the number of flights in Iranian calendar month of Ordibehesht (April 20-May 21) decreased by 7 percent, meanwhile the number of passengers and volume of the carried cargo registered fall by 8 percent and 23 percent respectively, compared to the preceding month.

Mehrabad Airport in Tehran topped the Iranian airports in terms of flights with over 11,585 flights (1.377 million passengers), followed by Mashhad airport (5,255 flights and 761,927 passengers), ‎Imam Khomeini (4,024 flights and 599,834 passengers), Shiraz (3,023 flights) and Isfahan (1,959 flights) international airports.

Domestic flights through Iranian airports accounted to 32,062 in the period, 6 percent less year-on-year. Also 6,166 flights were carried out in international routes in the period, which was 13 percent less in comparison to the same month of the preceding year.

In total, 72,101 flights were carried out via Iranian airports in the first two months of the current fiscal year, started March 20, 5 percent less year-on-year.
