Tehran, Iran, July 23

By Kamyar Eghbalnejad, A. Shirazi - Trend:

The head of Iran-Turkmenistan Chamber of Commerce said the volume of trade exchange between Tehran and Ashgabat is on the rise.

“Back in March, the presidents of Iran and Turkmenistan met and signed 14 memoranda of understanding,” Mohammad Samadi told Trend on July 23.

Since then, commercial issues of the two neighboring nations have been resolved and the volume of trade between them has improved, he added.

Describing the extradition of as many as 283 Iranian nationals jailed in Turkmenistan as a good sign for the enhancement of Iran’s ties with Turkmenistan, the official said, “We are making progress in various sectors and we plan to increase our exports to the Central Asian country”.

However, we need to take into consideration that Turkmenistan has made great advances in the past years, making different factories operational, he added.

Doing exports to Ashgabat is no longer an easy task, Samadi further said, adding that both countries, nonetheless, are resolved to boost their economic exchange.

Noting that the volume of Iran-Turkmenistan trade increased by 21 percent in the first three months of the current Iranian fiscal year (started March 21), he said, “Iran’s exports to Turkmenistan mainly includes agricultural products and citrus fruits,” he said.

The official added that Iran's representatives plan to attend an international conference on building materials and construction technology next month in Ashgabat in a bid to pave the way for more export to the country.
