Some 2,500 solar thermal panels will be installed on the buildings in Iran, Jafar Mohammednejad Siqarudi, representative of Iran's Renewable Energy Organization, said.

Solar thermal panels will be mainly installed in villages, Siqarudi added, Trend reports referring to the Iranian Energy Ministry.

The representative of the organization added that so far, about 3,500 solar thermal panels have been installed on the buildings in Iran.

More than 115 renewable energy stations have been commissioned in Iran. The production capacity of these stations has increased up to 841 megawatts, Siqarudi said.

The representative of the organization said that all these stations were commissioned by 115 private companies.

Siqarudi said that the purchase of electricity generated by renewable energy power plants increased by almost 30 percent upon the decision of the Iranian energy minister.

Thus, the cost of electricity per kilowatt generated at these stations has increased from about 3,700 rials (about $0.08) to 5,550 rials (about $0.13), the representative of the organization said.

If investors set up the wastewater treatment plants to generate electricity in northern Iran, the cost of electricity in those areas will double, Siqarudi added.
