By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

The amount of the discounts for the exports from Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to Iran as part of the preferential tariffs agreed upon by the sides, reached $1.5 million, Director General of the Iranian Customs Administration (IRICA) Mehdi Mirashrafi said on the sidelines of the conference titled "Trade with Eurasian Economic Union", Trend reports via ISNA.

Though Iran has started to apply the preferential tariffs on the EAEU exports to Iran, Iranian exporters haven't had the chance to benefit from these tariffs yet, Mirashrafi said.

The envisaged discounts are expected to be made for Iranian exporters, the IRICA head said, adding that even those who exported goods to EAEU within last month, will be able to benefit from the preferential tariffs for 12 months.

The customs official noted that Iran's vision for developing its trade is eastward and in recent years, Iran has had very good trade cooperation with Russia, China and India.

Iran's trade memorandum with the EAEU may contribute to the development of Iran's cooperation with other countries in the region, Mirashrafi noted.

In international trade, regional unions and cooperation with neighboring countries are of great importance, and Iran will also pay special attention to this, the customs official added.

A temporary trade memorandum between Iran and EAEU came into force on Oct. 27, 2019. According to the memorandum, 862 products will be imported and exported between the parties at reduced rates. Iran will export 502 types of products and will import 360 types of products. Pistachios, kiwi fruit, oil products, raisins, cucumbers, cabbage, persimmon, medicines, cement, copper, imports will include methanol will be Iran's main exports to the EAEU, while barley, animal feed, cathode, wood, etc.
