Iran’s crude steel production grows

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 23

Crude steel production in Iran increased by 11 percent in ten months of this Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through Jan. 20, 2020) compared to the same period last year, according to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), Trend reports referring to IMIDRO website.

Some 22.8 million tons of crude steel were produced in Iran for 10 months, according to the report.

This figure was 20.6 million tons in the same period last year.

In the ten months of this year, Iranian steel producers produced 16.5 million tons of steel products. The output of these products was 15.6 million tons in the same period last year.

Some 23.6 million tons of sponge iron were produced in the same period, which is an 8 percent increase compared to the same period last year (21.9 million tons).

The production of steel concentrate amounted to 39.3 million tons. This figure increased by 3 percent compared to the same period last year (38.1 million tons).

Production of steel pellets stood at 34.3 million tons. Compared to the same period last year (35.1 million tons), this is a decrease by 2 percent.
