Details of Iran's social security insurance revealed

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov. 3

The Deputy Head of Iran`s Social Security Organization announced the details and conditions of having compulsory, voluntarily and agreed social security insurance.

"According to the Social Security Law, individuals are covered by the Social Security Insurance in the form of various types of social insurance including compulsorily or voluntarily forms,” Vice Director-General at Iran's Social Security Organization, Majid Hassanzadeh said, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

“Currently, over 44 million people, both main and minor insured, are covered by the Social Security Organization`s insurance, of which more than 14 million are in the form of compulsory insurance,” he said.

He said that the people who have an employer, drivers, carpet weavers and craftsmen, and self-employed workers are covered by voluntary insurance.

Referring to the voluntary insurance type he says that “People aged 18 to 50 years can be covered by voluntary insurance, and accordingly, enjoy all benefits (except wage compensation and sick leave and unemployment insurance).

“This group of insured people can use the medical services of the organization by paying the per capita treatment fee, which is equal to $13 per month,” he said.

Regarding the type of insurance, Hassanzadeh stated that “In order to extend insurance coverage to groups that are not covered by the Social Security Organization, a type of social insurance called Agreed Insurance or insurance for certain social groups has been introduced.”

He went on to say that various groups, including scholars and clerics, members of the Medical System Organization, members of the Veterinary System, lawyers, the Association of Iran Insurance Agencies, the Engineering System Organization were covered by the Agreed Insurance type.
