Iran's renewable power plants ready to attract foreign investments

TEHRAN, Iran, Apr.19

Trend:

Iran's renewable power plants have good potential for attracting foreign investments, Deputy of Planning and Development of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA) Jafar Mohammadnejad Sigaroudi told Trendş

"In terms of capacity of Iran's renewable energy sector to attract foreign investment, we still believe that foreign investment in the sector is an opportunity, "Jafar Mohammadnejad Sigaroudi told Trend in an interview.

"Fortunately, there aren't any obstacles to presence of foreign investors in Iran. Foreign investors have been working in Iran since 2017 as far as power plant construction is concerned. We've opened the path," he said.

"The UK signed a contract to invest in development of renewable power plants in Iran, however the investment only had media coverage and then there was news of UK leaving Iran's market, after sanctions were re-imposed on Iran," Sigaroudi said, referring to the UK signing a contract with Iran in 2017 to invest in development of renewable power plants.

"The concern over sanctions and US fine (on companies dealing with Iran) has caused a considerable number of foreign investors to doubt investing in Iran," he said.

"They would continue investing, if there's a solution. The other way is to have sanctions lifted," he said.

"SATBA predicts that due to attraction of renewable energy sector in Iran, investments would increase," he said.
