Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has indicated that Iran is ready to have closer relations with Saudi Arabia, expressing hope that contacts with Riyadh would yield results, Trend reports via IRNA.
"We are ready and always have been ready to have closer relations with Saudi Arabia, we had contacts with Saudi Arabia and hope that these contacts would bring some results," Zarif said.
Zarif said hopefully these actions would contribute to peace and regional security, especially to the situation in Yemen, which is suffering from humanitarian catastrophe, " he said.
"Our Syrian brothers have always welcomed cooperation in the Arab world and we are in the same situation," he said.
"The new election in Syria is a joint subject for Iran and Syria and we believe this election has an importance for peace, security, stability and progress in Syria," he told reporters.
