Iran shares data on amount owed to electricity industry

TEHRAN, Iran, July. 12

The spokesman of Iran`s electricity industry announced that the government owes $12 billion to the electricity industry of the country.

The cost of electricity is about $0.04 per kilowatt-hour in Iran, Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

"Currently, the government owes billions of dollars to the electricity industry and the industry owes the same amount to contractors and electricity producers,” he said.

Daily electricity consumption in Iran reached 66,250 megawatts (66.25 gigawatts) which is a new record in the history of Iran’s electricity industry as a new heatwave has blanketed the country over the past few days.

The mentioned figure was 8,000 MW more than the consumption in the previous year’s peak period, and 10,000 MW more than the figure in the previous year.
