Iran ready to develop rail links with Azerbaijan and Russia, ambassador says

Iran is ready to develop railway communication with Azerbaijan and Russia, said Ambassador of Iran to Russia Kazem Jalali, Trend reports.

Jalali made the remark during the ‘International Round Table Cooperation between Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran in the Caspian Sea. Industrial cooperation and transit potential.’

The diplomat stated that Iran continues to work on the implementation of the project of the North-South International Transport Corridor.

“More than 20 years have passed since the signing of the agreement on the North-South ITC, and now Iran is committed to its implementation, for which it is necessary to complete the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway. We have already made trial transportation along the route,” Jalali said.

The ambassador stressed that Iran is ready to generally develop railway communication with Azerbaijan and Russia, and it supports the use of combined routes of cargo transportation ‘railroad + sea route.’

“We are ready to work with Russia on the sea transport fleet. We need ships that could transport our wagons. We are strengthening our fleet,” said the Iranian ambassador.

“We need to coordinate all opportunities for economic cooperation, in this case - to agree on all issues,” Jalali added.

According to the diplomat, Iran, Azerbaijan, India, and Russia are now deeply engaged in the whole range of issues of improving the interstate transport infrastructure.
