BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 1. Iran, on average, imports essential products from Brazil worth 6–8 billion dollars per year, Iranian co-chairman of the joint Chamber of Commerce of Iran and Brazil, Fakhreddin Amerian said, Trend reports.

He said that due to US and Western sanctions against Iran, the documents do not mention Iran's name in connection with the import of products from Brazil. Just countries around the Persian Gulf—for example, the name of Jebel Ali Port in the UAE—are mentioned. Based on this, it is impossible to ascertain the exact weight and types of Iranian imports of products from Brazil. Transportation of products through close ports to Iran is a way to avoid sanctions.

Amerian added that the products imported from Brazil to Iran are mainly frozen beef, frozen chicken, corn, soybean oil, and sugar.

The chairman of the Iranian Chamber noted that Iran's non-oil exports to Brazil amount to about $1.5 billion a year.

"Businessmen use dollars and euros as currencies in trade between the two countries. In many cases, barter is used," he said.

To note, the US imposed new sanctions on Iran in November 2018. Over the past period, the sanctions affected Iranian oil exports, more than 700 banks, companies, and individuals. The sanctions led to the freezing of Iran's assets in foreign countries.

Meanwhile, Iran mainly focuses on importing products needed by the country and imposes certain restrictions on the import of products manufactured in the country.
