Iran has conducted a safety test at the Bushehr nuclear power plant last week, Deputy Head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization Nasir Rastkhah said, Mehr reported.

According to Rastkhah, despite all the warnings regarding the safety of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, the end results of the tests were 95 percent successful.

Bushehr nuclear plant was first launched in 1975. After Iran's revolution in 1979, construction stopped until 1995 when Russia signed a contract to complete the works regarding the plant.

The 1,000-megawatt plant, located southeast of the city of Bushehr along the Persian Gulf, had been already connected to the country's national power grid with the power of 60 MW on September 3, 2011.

The plant was officially launched on September 12, 2011 and started generating electricity at 40 percent of its capacity.
