Commander of the Iranian 'Khatam al-Anbiya' air defense base, Brigadier General Farzad Ismaili called on the military not to intervene in the course of the presidential elections in the country, ISNA News Agency reported on Sunday.
Ismaili also called on the military not to join political groups.
"The military should be careful in order to not violate the 40th article of the Criminal Code of the Armed Forces. This Article prohibits joining political groups and political frictions. If the military will join the political tensions, the country's security will be broken," Ismaili said.
Ismaili also prohibited military servicemen to advocate voting for any candidate in their families or the population.
"If you will vote for any candidate, this voice will be a voice to the Islamic Republic. Therefore everyone must choose a worthy candidate himself," Ismaili added.
Iran's constitution forbids the military to intervene in politics, but according to the reports of some international media, they have somehow intervened the course of the presidential elections held in recent years.
Iran will hold the 11th presidential election on June 14, 2013.
The voters will select the successor of the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the elections for the third term according to the country's constitutional laws.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election. The Guardian Council has vetted the candidates for qualifications.
