Rouhani calls for transparent parliamentary election in Iran

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says all individuals, who are keen on serving to the country, should be allowed to run for the parliament.

Local news agency IRNA reported Dec. 11 that Rouhani made the remarks speaking on the upcoming parliamentary election, to be held Feb 26, 2016.

Rouhani further said that everyone should work for the election to be held in compliance with laws, transparently, and with high voter turnout.

Iran holds parliamentary election every four years. The previous election was held in March 2012.

Currently, Iran's parliament has 290 members. The parliament is chaired by Ali Larijani.

Iranian parties are divided into three main camps - the conservatives, reformists and moderates.

The camp of reformists includes 47 parties, the conservatives - 35 parties, and moderates - 25 parties.

Reformists and conservatives are considered to be the main competitors during the election in February 2016.
