Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 29
By Fatih Karimov- Trend:
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the "enemies" are trying to unleash war between the Muslims in the world, according to the leader's official website.
Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with the Muslim scholars, thinkers and political figures attending the 29th International Islamic Unity Conference as well as Islamic countries ambassadors to Tehran Dec. 29.
"Once the Sunni and Shia words started to be used in the US literature we were concerned," Khamenei said, adding that it soon became clear the US was following other purposes.
Khamenei further said that the US officials say they have no problem with Islam, but in certain ways they are "hypocrites and liars".
"Today creating internal war among Muslims is the enemies' purpose," Khamenei said, expressing regret that they have succeeded to some extent and are destroying countries one after another.
"They are destroying Syria, Yemen and Libya and are imposing pressure against Muslims in Bahrain," Khamanei said.
He also criticized the Muslim world for keeping quiet against the issue.
