Hamas MP Condemns US, West's Attempts to Prevent Palestinian Reconciliation

A representative of the Hamas Movement at the Palestinian parliament condemned the US and the West for their attempts to prevent the Palestinian reconciliation efforts, and called on the Palestinian Authority and the Fatah movement not to succumb to these pressures, Fars News reported.

Speaking to FNA on Sunday, Sheikh Hamid al-Beitawi also added, "We are at a difficult and sensitive stage requiring all people to double their efforts to serve Palestine and the Palestinian cause."

He also condemned Israel, the US administration and the European countries for their wide-scale and continued attempts to prevent the Palestinian reconciliation.

His remarks came after media reports said that the western countries are putting pressure on Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas to bar him from pursuing the reconciliation efforts among different Palestinian groups.

Yet, Abbas and Hamas Politburo Chief Khaled Mashaal disregardful of the foreign plots agreed to start negotiations over the two sides' nominees for the post of Palestinian premiership.

Fatah negotiator Azzam al-Ahmed told FNA earlier today that the upcoming meeting between Abbas and Mashaal will mainly focus on choosing a proper nominee for the post of prime minister.

Abbas and Mashaal will meet in Cairo in late November, the first summit between the leaders since they signed a deal in May.

The two are slated to discuss the implementation of the inter-Palestinian reconciliation agreement as well as the Parliamentary and presidential elections.
