OSCE Tbilisi Office Head Concerned on Aggravation of Situation in Georgia Region

Georgia, Tbilisi, 5 July / corr. Trend N.Kirtzkhalia / Terhi Hakala, the head of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) office in Georgia, expressed his concerns on resumption of fire in the Georgian-Osetin conflict region. He made this statement for journalists at the Georgian Defense Ministry.

Hakala said that the OSCE chairman-in-office (Alexander Stub, the Finnish Foreign Minister) intended to appeal to Georgia and Osetin calling them to resume a dialogue.

The settlement of the Georgian-Osetin conflict is held under aegis of the OSCE. The chairman-in-office of the organization said that resumption of the fire in the conflict region was alert and indicated aggravation of the situation in the conflict region. He urged Georgia and Osetia to take all measures to escalate the situation and to refrain from actions, which can aggravate the situation further.

The situation in the conflict region became tense in the early hours of 4 July, when shootings were heard in Tzkhinvali and its suburbs over five hours.
