Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 August /corr. Trend J.Babayeva / Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Heiki Talvitie considers it necessary to place additionally 100 military observers in Georgia, he said during special meeting of the OSCE Standing Council in Vienna on 14 August.
OSCE mission in Georgia comprises nearly 200 people, including eight unarmed military officers. The
decision to increase the number of observers will require approval from all 56
OSCE participating countries.
"The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Finnish Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb appealed
to OSCE participating countries for increasing the number of observers," said Talvitie.
According to
the special representative, the situation in the South Ossetian conflict zone
remains "brittle", and 56 delegations from the OSCE participating states
welcomed the decision on ceasefire.
Talvitie said that the presence of additional military observers of OSCE in Georgia, at the places could contribute to create and support humanitarian corridor for the
international efforts to render emergency assistance, and also to observe cease
fire.
Yesterday the OSCE Chairman-in-Office suggested increasing the number of observers in the conflict zone up to 100 people.
