Georgia, Tbilisi, 18 August / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / Leaders of two Georgian influential opposition parties appealed to the NATO to call on to accelerate Georgia's join the alliance. The leaders are David Gamkrelidze, leader of the New Rights party, and David Usupashvili, leader of the Republic party.
"We took the decision without any consultation with other opposition parties because of little time rested," Gamkrelidze said. The appeal will be submitted to the NATO ministerial on 19 August.
Decision means "a chance for Georgia to avoid confrontation and develop freely". "It is very important, as joining NATO is a guarantee for democratic processes in Georgia," leader of Republicans said.
"NATO's decision will not mean that the alliance will join the war against Russia, but the decision will be a message to the countries, which want freedom and move towards democracy,' Usupashvili said.
Opposition representatives said that the Government would analyze the situation and make critics, but now we have to prevent aggression," Gamkrelidze said.
