US Hopes for Efficiency of Georgia’s Second Democracy Wave

N.Kirtskhalia/ During the evaluation of democratic processes in Georgia it is of great importance how much effective the second wave of democracy, initiated by President Mikheil Saakashvili, will be. A lot is still to be done so that to strengthen Georgia's democracy, Daniel Fried, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, who is currently visiting Georgia, said at a final briefing.

He said independent court, media and strong opposition are the most important institutes for the development of democracy. And the public plays a special role in the latter. "The society must provide that by itself," he said.

"Development of democracy in Georgia will strengthen the state," he said.
