Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze during a meeting with his Polish counterpart on Wednesday denied reports that Georgia's accession to NATO was delayed, dpa reported.

On Tuesday, an opposition party leader said the Georgia's accession "is postponed indefinitely" because of "serious obstacles" that arose after the country's conflict with Russia in August, according to a report by the Interfax news agency.

Vashadze said accession cannot be delayed "because it's a process," while Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski said he "wasn't aware of there being a calendar" for joining.

Vashadze also voiced support for the Eastern Partnership - a Polish-Swedish proposal to strengthen European Union ties with Georgia and other former Soviet neighbours.

"We fully understand the benefits the Eastern Partnership will bring to Georgia," he told reporters.
