The amount of transfers received by Georgia in January soared to $5.2 million, or 10.3 percent more than the same period in 2009.

The National Bank of Georgia said transfers from Russia ($2 million) and Greece ($1.1 million) increased during this period.

Large transfers fall to seven donor countries where the cashflow exceeds $1 million. Money transfers from Russia amounted to $29.1 million, and Ukraine - $4.5 million. From the U.S., the figure reached $4.5 million, Greece - $4.4 million, Italy - $3.6 million, Turkey - $1.8 million, and Spain - $1.6 million.

About 87.9 percent of the transfers fell to these countries in January.
