The Labor Party sees a threat in a recent Pentagon statement on dispoing U.S. military bases on unoccupied areas of Georgia.

An appeal from the Pentagon to the U.S. Congress several days ago shows that the United States and Russia have collaborated with the Georgian president to hand over the remaining areas of the coutnry,Labor Party leader Shalva Natelashvili said.

According to Natelashvili, neither Russian nor U.S. military bases should be located in Georgia.

Georgian Presidential Press Service head Manana Manjgaladze said local media have incorrectly interpreted the Pentagon's appeal.

"In fact, this is U.S. aid to equip the Georgian contingent participating in the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan. This is a continuation of the partnership between the two countries," Manjgaladze said.
