The U.S. State Department recommends its citizens to refrain from visiting Georgia's separatist provinces, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Jalagania said at a briefing on Monday.

He said the State Department published at its website instructions for its citizens in connection with travel to Georgia and which reflect threats.

"Instructions on travel to Georgia were published at the website of the State Department. Threats and attractive sides awaiting the U.S. citizens in Georgia reflect reality. Visit of our two occupied provinces rates as posing threats. The State Department recommends its citizens to refrain from visiting these provinces," Mr Jalagania said. He said Georgia's these provinces are mentioned as occupied territories.

Military actions were launched in the Georgian territory of South Ossetia on Aug.8 in 2008.Later Russian troops occupied the city of Tskhinvali and drove the Georgian military back.Russia then recognised the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced the two unrecognised republics as occupied territories.
