Czech Deputy FM to open regional workshop in Tbilisi

The First Deputy Foreign Minister and State Secretary for European Affairs of the Czech Republic Jiri Schneider will open the third workshop on the reforming of public administration at local and regional level in Tbilisi. As the Czech Embassy in Georgia said, the workshop is being organised by the foreign ministry of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the European Commission.

The First Deputy Foreign Minister and State Secretary for European Affairs of the Czech Republic Jiri Schneider will open the third workshop on the reforming of public administration at local and regional level in Tbilisi. As the Czech Embassy in Georgia said, the workshop is being organised by the foreign ministry of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the European Commission.

The workshop is being held under the auspices of the Czech foreign minister Karel Schwarzenberg. It will be attended by 26 government officials and civil society representatives from the six Eastern Partnership countries (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Armenia).

In accordance with the concept of Czech foreign policy, the workshop should contribute to the rapprochement of the Eastern Partnership countries and their citizens with the EU and with each other and designed to cover the rule of law, political pluralism, human rights, establishment of transparent institutions and acts in the interests of citizens.

The workshop will bring together experts from the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Poland and Spain.

The workshop focuses at sharing experiences among experts from the Czech Republic and other EU countries with partner countries' representatives. Topics will centre on decentralisation of state functions and financial autonomy of local and regional authorities as being a precondition for efficient public administration and e-governance, fight against corruption, inequality regional communities, the development and establishment of local democracy.
