Germany's Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Dirk Niebel arrived in Tbilisi last night.
As Niebel told reporters at the Tbilisi International Airport, during his visit, timed to the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations with Georgia, he intends to get familiarized with the progress of the programs financed by Germany.
"We have good relations with Georgia, and during these years, Germany has provided assistance to the Georgian people, and I want to make sure that the joint projects are implemented successfully," Niebel said.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, Prime Minister Nika Gilauri and other officials will receive Niebel during his visit.
During the visit, new grant and loan agreements between Germany and Georgia will also be signed.
The documents envisage allocating substantial financial resources for restoration of sewerage system in Batumi, improvement of living conditions of refugees and financing various projects.
Finance Minister of Georgia, Vice-President of the German Bank for Reconstruction (KfW), Germany's Ambassador to Georgia and head of KfW Caucasian office will sign the agreement. The ceremony will also be attended by Niebel, and members of the German delegation.
