The U.S. Defence Ministry is ready to purchase food and clothing for the U.S military in Afghanistan from Georgian producers. A symposium opened in Tbilisi today is dedicated to this issue.

The symposium has been organised by the Georgian government and a logistics department of the U.S. Defence Ministry. Amendments to U.S law allow Georgian entrepreneurs to participate in tenders to supply the Pentagon.

Georgian Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili said at a symposium that Georgian businessmen will have a unique opportunity to join the U.S. market.

"This is the largest market, which accounts for $47 billion," he added. "Georgian businessmen can become its participants. This will facilitate business development in Georgia, create jobs and improve the quality of products."

About 120 Georgian companies are attending the symposium. Pentagon officials will explain to Georgian producers what the terms of participation in Pentagon's tenders and requirements for products involve during the two days.
