Units of the Georgian Defense Ministry, involved in eliminating consequences of the disaster in the Kakheti region (Eastern Georgia) have left the region. They were seen off by Georgian President, Mikheil Saakashvili on July 30.

The disaster raged in three regions of Georgia - Kakheti, Mtskheta-Tianeti and Samtskhe-Javakheti on Wednesday night. A total of over 30,000 families suffered from the disaster.

The President thanked the servicemen for their selfless work and assistance to the disaster-affected people of Kakheti, and promised that each of them will receive a medal constituted by the President. He said that the damage that Georgia suffered as a result of the disaster is no less than the damage that August war in 2008 caused the country.

"But the Georgian people showed solidarity, and within a few hours after the disaster restoration and construction work began in the Kakheti region," Saakashvili said.

About 2,000 representatives of various units of the Georgian Defense Ministry, the fourth and fifth infantry brigades, building team, an engineering battalion and thousands of reservists were involved in operations on disaster relief in Kakheti. About 200 units of special equipment and vehicles were involved in these operations as well.

On July 30 servicemen left the disaster-affected region, where they worked within last week.
