Georgia is not considering joining the Customs Union in either the near future or in the long term, Georgian Economy Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said at a press conference during an "Eastern Partnership" informal dialogue today.

He said that although Georgia has begun negotiations with Russia to allow local producers to be able to bring their products to the Russian market, this does not mean no to important developments such as the signing of a free trade agreement with the EU.

"The opening the Russian market will have a positive impact on the Georgian economy, but the EU market is much larger and it is important to us," he said. "However, these two issues do not interfere with each other."
