Tram line restoration project suspended in Tbilisi

Tbilisi city administration confirmed that the project of restoring the tram line in Tbilisi has been suspended.

Tbilisi city administration told Georgian radio "Kommersant" today that they are waiting for the government's interest in this project, as it is associated with large financial losses.

Head of the City Transport Service Akaki Jokhadze said that tram was supposed to be a continuation of the subway and transport passengers from the last subway station. This type of transport must be restored in Tbilisi in 2014.

In this regard, the Tbilisi city administration signed a memorandum with the French Sistra company in 2010. Earlier, the French government to finance the relevant operations.

According to the Tbilisi city administration, laying a kilometer tram line costs 8-9 million euros.
