The leader of parliamentary minority and the ex-speaker of the Georgian Parliament David Bakradze won in the first primaries of the party of Georgian president United National Movement.
The program presented by him was supported by 370 delegates at the conference, which brought together delegates from the parties of Imereti and Racha-Lechkhumi regions.
The primaries are preliminary (primary) elections, during which a selection of candidates to be nominated by the party in the upcoming elections is carried out.
Four presidential candidates - David Bakradze, as well as his colleagues in parliament Giorgi Baramidze, Shota Malashkhia and Zurab Japaridze presented their programs and answered to the questions of delegates.
The presidential candidate from the United National Movement will be finally determined by July 30. In total five more party conferences will be held in different regions of the country. The last conference will be held in Tbilisi.
The presidential election in Georgia will be held in October of this year. According to the Constitution, the incumbent president Mikheil Saakashvili does not have the right to participate in elections, as he has been in office for two terms.
