European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule shared on his account in a social network the impressions about the meeting with Georgian Justice Minister Thea Tsulukiani, Georgian Justice Ministry said on Wednesday.
The European Commissioner Fule wrote that Georgia is one of the most important partners of EU. He welcomes the readiness of official Tbilisi to intensify its cooperation with EU.
Fule stated that the European Union supports political and economic integration of Georgia. The evidence of this is the desire to execute the Association Agreement which also envisages a free and comprehensive trade agreement.
Thea Tsulukiani and Stefan Fule discussed the planned and ongoing legal reforms during the meeting, the implementation of which is under the competence of Georgia's Justice Ministry. Tsulukiani said that qualitative reformation of Georgia's justice system is its primary task.
According to Fule, creation of maximum constructive environment for reforms is very significant before the initialing of Association Agreement.
The parties also discussed the upcoming presidential elections in Georgia. The European Commissioner stressed the importance of holding fair elections which will strengthen the democratic institutions in the country.
At the end of the meeting, Stefan Fule reiterated EU's strong support to Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty. According to him, European Union actively follows the processes in the surrounding territories of the occupied regions. Apart from the fact that these processes affect the everyday life of the local population, it hinders the solution to the conflict in long-term perspective.
It was noted during the meeting that the recent developments will be discussed in the group of incident prevention at Geneva talks.
