Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has congratulated Georgian sailors on the EU's recognition of certificates of competence. Garibashvili said that this is a very important decision, which will positively reflect how Georgia is viewed at sea.

"On November 22, EU delegations unanimously supported the EU recognition of certificates of Georgian sailors' competence at a meeting of the European Commission," Garibashvili said. "This is a very important decision for our country, which will positively reflect on Georgia's image as a maritime country. This means that our 18,000 sailors will have the right and the opportunity to work on ships flying under the flags of EU countries."

According to Garibashvili, the recognition of Georgian sailors' certificates means that the current sailor training system in Georgia fully complies with European standards and international best practice.

"I hope that our sailors will compete with European and American counterparts in a worthy manner and Georgian sailors will be as appreciated as British, French and American counterparts," he said. "I congratulate our sailors with this recognition."
