Georgia’s Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze is paying an official visit to the United States, Agenda reports.

He has already met with high ranking executive officials and lawmakers, who pledged their support to Georgia’s further development and territorial integrity.

Kobakhidze met with the Executive Vice President of the Atlantic Council Damon Wilson in Washington today, where the latter stated that in terms of military and security cooperation, "significant progress has been achieved” between Georgia and the US.

"The Atlantic Council team has worked seriously to persuade decision-makers in Washington to support Georgia and Ukraine,” Wilson said.

Kobakhidze also met with co-chairs of Georgia’s Friends’ Group in the US Congress and thanked them for their resolutions on Georgia’s territorial issues.

Yesterday Kobakhidze met with the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Elizabeth Millard.

The officials discussed bilateral relations and strategic cooperation. Millard thanked Georgia for its participation in the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan and for contributing to the maintenance of world security.

They also touched upon ongoing democratic reforms in Georgia, the Bill on Labor Safety and liberal trade and economic policies in Georgia.

Yesterday Kobakhidze also met with Congressman Harold Rogers and discussed bilateral trade-economic relations and cooperation.

Rogers stated that the US will "further unconditionally support Georgia.”

During the meeting with the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives of the Congress, Steve Scalise, the officials discussed strategic cooperation in various fields.

"The US continues its financial support of Georgia – a friend and an ally,” Scalise stated.
