BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 16
By Maryana Akhmedova – Trend:
The volume of Georgia’s exports of table grapes increased by 40 percent in October 2021, compared to the same period of 2020, Trend reports, citing the EastFruit report.
However, Georgia exported 245 tons of table grapes in October 2021, which amounted to half of the September exports, the report said.
According to EastFruit, the main export destination is Russia with 92 percent share in the total export of Georgian table grapes, while the prices in October fell to $720, compared to $740 in September.
“Most of the table grapes in October come from refrigerated warehouses, so buyers pay less,” the EastFruit said.
Georgia’s exports of table grapes from the beginning of the harvest season through September 2021 amounted to 775 tons, which is 3.2 times more than over the same period of 2020, which was a record figure, the report said.
According to the EastFruit, Russia's share in the exports of Georgian table grapes is approaching 100 percent in 2020 and 2021.
“This year, due to temporary supply problems, Russia has massively purchased fruits and vegetables from Georgia, beside table grapes. Whether this will happen again next year, there is no exact answer, because the Russian market is characterized by instability in terms of exports,” the EastFruit said.
