By Maryana Akhmedova – Trend:

Georgia’s tourism revenues in January 2022 amounted to $144 million, which is 11 times more, compared to $10.4 million over the reporting period of 2021, Trend reports via tourism recovery review from the Galt & Taggart.

According to the report, the same figure decreased by 25.5 percent, compared to January 2020 ($193.4 million), and by 12.4 percent, compared to the same month of 2019 ($164.5 million).

The revenues from tourism in Georgia show faster recovery, than tourist arrivals, Galt & Taggart noted.

Georgia’s tourism revenues in January 2022 mostly accounted for Russia with a 16 percent share of the total revenues. Ukraine ranks second with a 12 percent share of the total revenues, as well as the EU countries (12 percent), followed by Turkey (11 percent), and Israel (8 percent).

“We expect recovery in visitors and tourism revenues to accelerate in the coming months due to hopes of fading the pandemic,” Galt & Taggart noted.

In the baseline scenario, Galt & Taggart expects Georgia’s tourism revenues in 2022 to recover to 80-85 percent of the 2019 level and total $2.8 billion (123.2-percent year-on-year increase). The projected figure will account for 13 percent of the GDP, the report added.

Meawhile, the total number of international visitors to Georgia in January 2022 amounted to 199,393 people, which is an increase of 471.2 percent, compared to 34,909 visitors over the same month of 2021.

However, the current figure decreased by 68.5 percent, compared to 633,201 visitors in January 2020, and by 62.3 percent, compared to 528,678 people over the same month of 2019.
