BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 21. The cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan should be based on the investments in the production of high-value-added products and processing sectors, Elshad Mammadov, Deputy Director of the Russian School of Economics, Professor of the Azerbaijan Economic University, told Trend.

“In this context, it is necessary to invest more in the processing production. This includes agriculture, industry, and energy sectors,” Mammadov said.

The expert noted that Azerbaijan is a key investor in Georgia. In this regard, Georgia is a transport and logistics component in many investment projects in which Azerbaijan is involved.

He added that implementation of projects that serve the national interests of both Azerbaijan and Georgia should be permanent.

“We see that today Azerbaijani business successfully operates in Georgia. In addition, regarding Azerbaijan’s export realization potential, Georgia is of great importance,” Mammadov said.

He added that, at the same time, regional cooperation should be more focused on joint major investment projects related to the development of the real sector of the economy, because it is difficult to achieve sustainable competitiveness without the creation of regional chains and powerful production centers.

According to the economist, it is necessary to implement a broader regional economic integration. In this regard, the “3+3” format would be very effective in terms of establishing regional economic cooperation.
