BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 20. Azerbaijan entered the top five largest trading partners of Georgia in the first five months of 2023, Trend reports.
According to the National Sakstat Statistics Service of Georgia, the total foreign trade turnover of Georgia for the five months of this year amounted to more than $8.3 billion, which is 18.9 percent more compared to the same period of 2022.
Exports amounted to more than $2.5 billion (an increase of 18.6 percent), imports – about $5.9 billion (an increase of 19.1 percent), from January through May. The negative balance of foreign trade exceeded $3.3 billion, which is 40.1 percent of the total trade turnover.
The five largest trading partners of Georgia included Türkiye (trade turnover exceeded $1.1 billion, which is 16 percent more in comparison with the period from January through May 2022), Russia (more than $1 billion, an increase of 38.4 percent), China ($623 million, which is 20.5 percent less compared to the same period in 2022), Azerbaijan (more than $612 million, an increase of 7.3 percent) and the US ($610.2 million).
Moreover, Azerbaijan increased exports of goods from Georgia from January through May of this year. Thus, during the corresponding period, Azerbaijan exported goods from Georgia in the amount of $336.5 million, which is 50.2 percent more compared to the same period last year.
