South Korea shot two Cheongung anti-aircraft guided missiles around 25 miles and hit a mock target accurately, STAR DAILY reports.

It was the nation’s first live-fire mission since the South Korea-made system was deployed, military officials confirmed today.

This comes as North Korea continues to threaten its neighbours with war.

Yesterday, propaganda newspaper Rodong Sinmun vowed to “devastate” South Korea.

The Cheongung medium-range surface-to-air missile (KM-SAM) were among the weapons systems mobilised for the weapon testing yesterday.

The other weapons were the mid-range Patriot system, short-range Mistral missiles and Vulcan cannons.

More than 300 troops of 10 units under the wing of the command joined the event held at the Daecheon shooting range in South Chungcheong Province.

It was a ground-to-air live-fire test aimed at sharpening the capability of countering North Korea missiles fired towards the South.

The Air Force flew unmanned aircraft, replicating North Korea warplanes, for the missiles to target.

A Patriot missile first intercepted a simulated enemy jet and the Mistral, and the Vulcan shot down another plane approaching the coastal area at a low altitude.
