Jordan accuses Israel of violating of Lebanese sovereignty
The Jordanian cabinet on Tuesday condemned Israel's "violation" of Lebanese sovereignty in the lethal border clash - and expressed deep concern over the "dangerous" military escalation between Lebanon and Israel, dpa reported.
At least two Lebanese soldiers, and Israeli soldier and a Lebanese journalist were killed in the exchange of fire earlier Tuesday.
"Jordan rejects any Israeli encroachment on the Lebanese sovereignty as well as its violation of the UN Security Council resolution 1701," the cabinet said in a statement after a regular weekly session.
"The cabinet also expressed deep concern over today's dangerous escalation on Lebanese territory and emphasised Jordan's support to Lebanon, the Lebanese people and Lebanon's right to defend its sovereignty against Israeli aggression," it added.
The Jordanian cabinet also underscored the importance of "preserving stability and security in the region and preventing any thing that may undermine peace efforts".
