At least two Egyptian army jets flew in circles repeatedly at a low altitude around Cairo on Sunday, in a show of strength by the military amid the massive revolt that entered the sixth day, Xinhua reported.

Military helicopters were also seen hovering over the Tahrir Square in downtown area, where thousands of protesters were still gathering, demanding President Hosni Mubarak step down.

Army troops reinforcements were sent all over Cairo in an attempt to control the violent scene in the capital since Friday.

On Sunday morning, President Mubarak visited a military operation center and met with his newly-appointed Vice President Omar Suleiman, as well as outgoing Defense Minister Mohamed Hussein Tantawi and Chief of Staff Sami Anan.

Tantawi also inspected on Sunday the army troops securing the areas of downtown Cairo and the Radio and Television Building.

The army said on Sunday that at least 3,113 outlaws and prisoners who had escaped from some jails across the country were captured over the past two days, the official MENA news agency reported.
