Egyptian government reinstates al-Jazeera broadcast

Arab World Materials 9 February 2011 17:49 (UTC +04:00)

The Egyptian government on Wednesday reinstated the broadcast frequencies for the al-Jazeera Arabic channel and the al- Jazeera Live channel after both had been dropped by the country's main satellite provider, DPA reported.

The government had disrupted the broadcast feed of both channels over two weeks ago, just after anti-government protests began.

No immediate reason was given for why the broadcaster's frequency was restored on Egypt's Nilesat. Egyptians had still been able to access the Arabic channels via private satellite providers.

Several of the channel's journalists were arrested and their press pass revoked during the unrest, although those detained have been released
