The moderate Islamist Party of Justice and Development (PJD) has won Friday's parliamentary elections in Morocco, according to official results issued on Saturday, dpa reported.

The moderate Islamist Party of Justice and Development (PJD) has won Friday's parliamentary elections in Morocco, according to official results issued on Saturday, dpa reported.

The PJD had obtained 80 out of a total of 288 seats for which results were available, Interior Minister Taieb Cherkaoui announced.

Outgoing Prime Minister Abbas el-Fassi's nationalist party Istiqlal came second with 45 seats.

Morocco's chamber of representatives has 395 seats. Definitive election results were due on Sunday.
