Two people killed in Iraq's Diyala

Two people were killed and two others wounded Monday in separate bomb attacks in Iraq's eastern province of Diyala, a provincial police source told Xinhua.

A roadside bomb went off in the town of Bohruz, near the provincial capital city of Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, killing one civilian and wounding two others, the source said on condition of anonymity.

In a separate incident, a civilian was killed when a roadside bomb detonated near his car in the town of al-Saadiyah, some 60 km north of Baquba, the source said.

Also in the province, Iraqi security forces carried out search operations across the province during the past 24 hours and arrested eight suspects, and seized a cache of weapons, the source added.

Diyala province, which stretches from the eastern edges of Baghdad to the Iranian border east of the country, has long been a stronghold for al-Qaida militants and other militia since the U.S.- led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
