The Palestinian crisis can be resolved only if Israel leaves Palestine, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said today. He made the statement while commenting on the recognition of the Palestinian National Authority by Argentina and Brazil, IribNews reported.
He added that all of Palestine's refugees must return to their homeland.
In early December, Argentina and Brazil recognized the Palestinian National Authority as a free and independent state "within the borders defined on June 4, 1967." Israel called Argentina's decision "regrettable," Agence France-Presse reported, citing the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
The current negotiation process between Israel and Palestine began in 1993. Palestinians hope that the Israelis would withdraw their troops from the territories of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem occupied after the 1967 war. The Palestinian National Autonomy wants to create a state with its capital in East Jerusalem. However, Israel refuses to return to the borders of 1967. It does not want to raise the issue of Jerusalem, which it called its "indivisible capital."
