Palestinian protest in Hebron, scuffle with Israeli army
Witnesses say hundreds of Palestinians have staged a protest in the Israeli-controlled city center of Hebron, the Associated Press reported.
The demonstrators are calling on Hebron residents to reclaim the downtown area where Israeli troops guard
several Israeli settler enclaves.
During Sunday's protest, several Jewish settlers pulled down three Palestinian flags and burned one of the banners.
Israeli forces pushed the settlers away.
Soldiers then demanded that the Palestinians leave the area. This promoted a scuffle. No one was hurt.
Downtown Hebron was once home to a thriving market area.
But many businesses have been forced to close because Israel has restricted Palestinian access to the city
