Former Czech president Vaclav Havel leaves hospital

( dpa )- Former Czech president Vaclav Havel has returned home after several weeks of treatment in hospital for acute bronchitis and a heart arrhythmia, Radio Prague reported Sunday.

The 71-year-old former dissident playwright and head of state had been taken to hospital on January 19, and according to the report, released Saturday evening.

He is to continue treatment at home, the report said.

An avid smoker, Havel suffered from numerous health problems during and after his term as president between 1989 and 2003.

He is the subject of a documentary entitled Citizen Havel , which has been showing in Czech cinemas since Thursday and is due to run at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival.
