Portuguese president arrives in Jordan for three-day visit

( dpa ) - Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva and his wife arrived in Amman Saturday for a three-day official visit to Jordan.

President Silva was due to have talks with King Abdullah II and other senior officials on the latest Middle East developments, particularly the ongoing efforts aimed at reaching a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians, officials said.

The discussions were also expected to focus on means of boosting bilateral economic and trade ties, they added.

The Portuguese president was scheduled to take part in a meeting of leading businessmen from Jordan and Portugal to explore bilateral investment opportunities.
