(dpa) - Dutch Serbs plan to stage a protest demonstration on Sunday against Kosovo's independence, with around 1,000 people expected to take part, Dutch media reported Sunday.

The rally is due to begin at 1 pm local time (1200 GMT) and will take place near the Dutch parliament in The Hague.

A spokeswoman for the Dutch Serbs was quoted as saying the "Serb community in the Netherlands rejects and condemns the declaration of independence by the Kosovo-Albanans and will never recognize an independent Kosovo."

She added that a "possible Dutch recognition of Kosovo's independence would be an appalling act. Under the eyes of the international security and peacekeeping troops, ethnic cleansing took place against the Serb population of Kosovo."
